OUR PHILANTHROPY

The Make-A-Wish Foundation

One of Chi Omega’s Six Purposes is philanthropy and community service. Our Founders thought it important for sisters to devote time to causes greater than themselves. Throughout its history, Chi Omega charged each collegiate chapter to adopt a philanthropic project according to their local communities’ needs. In the late 1990s, the Governing Council recognized the immense impact our 300,000 initiates could have within the world of community service, and they began to investigate possible partnerships with national philanthropies.

In 2002, Chi Omega announced the Chi Omega/Make-A-Wish alliance. In the first four years of service with Make-A-Wish, Chi Omega has raised over $2 million and given over 100,000 volunteer hours. The Make-A-Wish Foundation presented two awards to the Fraternity at the Make-A-Wish Sponsor Recognition Luncheon held in Phoenix, AZ in 2004. Chi Omega received the Wishmaker award for volunteer hours given and the Gold Sponsor Award for funds raised.

Chi Omega’s goal is to have both collegiate and alumnae chapters become increasingly involved in volunteering and fundraising for the Make-A-Wish Foundation and to assist in the granting of wishes to these special children. Through this, all Chi Omegas can understand the importance of service to others as a founding principle of our Sisterhood. (ChiOmega.com)

Chi Omega and The Make-A-Wish Foundation

The Epsilon Delta chapter of the Chi Omega Fraternity is privileged to grant wishes of children living in the Hattiesburg area. This past year we granted the wish of a little girl named Zoe to go to Disney World. Before her departure we invited Zoe to our home where we threw her a Disney Princess Party.

This past year, we (the Epsilon Delta Chapter of Chi Omega) raised over $26,000 for the Make-A-Wish Foundation at Songfest, our annual philanthropy. Also, we have been recognized nationally by Chi Omega for our service we do for The Make-A-Wish Foundation.

Songfest is a choral competition between the fraternities and sororities on campus. Also, we hold a Make-A-Wish money drop weeks prior to Songfest. Each fraternity and sorority competing in Songfest vote on a member to represent them for their chapter to be in the run-off as Mr. and Mrs. Songfest. The representative from the fraternity and sorority with the most money on the night of Songfest is crowed Mr. and Mrs. Songfest. Songfest is philanthropy that really shows Greek unity on campus and also the talent each organization has. Songfest is usually held each year around the end of November.
