The kinemage authorship website
was constructed as a resource for instructors and their undergraduate students
authoring three-dimensional molecular structures, ie kinemages, from protein data
bank files. In making a kinemage, the author must select the important features of the
structures, then artistically illustrate and annotate those features. In this
constructivist approach to molecular structure, the student becomes the teacher. |

Kinemages were developed for authors publishing in Protein
Science, the journal of the Protein Society, by Jane and David Richardson. Please read
their introduction to kinemages.
Many
students have seen kinemages as textbook supplements. The goal of this
project is to help them make their own supplements and hopefully gain
a deeper knowledge of structure and the structure/function relationship
in the process.

We are
looking for biochemistry instructors who would be willing to use our materials in their
class. If you are interested, go to the Instructor page. For
programs and pertinent links, go to Authorship Links. To
download our kinemage authorship manual, click here. A part
of the manual is also available as an online tutorial.
