I joined the Department of Computer Science at the University of Southern Mississippi as an assistant professor in 2003. I received my Ph.D. at Louisiana Tech University in 2001 and was a research assistant professor in the Department of Computer Science at the University of Vermont from 2001 to 2003. I served as the Director of School of Computing from July 2008 to June 2014. Currently I am a professor in computer science in the School of Computing.

My research interests include
  • Data Mining, Machine Learning and Big Data Analytics (deep learning, clustering and classification, big data analytics for medical science and DOD applications, information retrieval)
  • Computational biology, bioinformatics and toxicogenomics (systems biology, microarray and next generation sequencing data analysis, gene network reconstruction, toxicity analysis)
  • Medical Image Processing and Pattern Recognition (3D medical image reconstruction, object detection, facial recognition and video retrieval)
  • High performance computing (parallel and distributed computing, modeling and simulation)
